Roundtable at the Houses of Parliament

The Cambridge Centre for Housing and Planning Research, Places for People and the Centre for Comparative Housing Research today co-hosted a roundtable event at Millbank, London, Chaired by Lord Richard Best.  The focus of the debate was on Innovative investment in affordable housing – creating an inclusive market.

Policy options for boosting the supply of affordable rented housing

The Cambridge Centre for Housing and Planning Research today ran a workshop at Trinity Hall, University of Cambridge focusing on Policy options for boosting the supply of affordable rented housing.

Dr Tim Brown and David Cowans, Chief Executive of Places for People, both contributed to the day which had been organised and by Professor Michael Oxley.

It was also an opportunity for CCHPR to launch its ESRC funded film which builds on this research project.

 

 

The aims of the workshop were to:

  • assess the viability of using new ideas based on tax incentives to boost the supply of affordable rented housing in the UK;
  • discuss what practical steps need to be taken to bring about a change in housing policy that will increase house building, and make housing more affordable for lower income households; and
  • promote an improved appreciation of the policy options for boosting affordable housing supply.
